Documents attributed to Tonya were found to belong to another female polar bear born two days later at the Moscow Zoo.
Tonya’s true parents were the same as the male Baroja’s parents, who would later be paired at the Berlin Zoo.
Herta, a child born between Tonya and Baroja, was born in December 2018.
