A plan for foreigners from Musashino City to participate in the referendum.
Mayor Reiko Matsushita of Musashino City, Tokyo, wanted to create an ordinance that would allow foreigners to participate in the referendum.
The referendum is held when the resident decides on an important issue in the city.
The mayor said, ”I want to join forces with the various people who live in the city.”
And, like the Japanese, he proposed to the parliament that foreigners over the age of 18 who have an address in the city for more than 3 months can participate in the referendum.
Not only the people living in the city but also various people such as members of the Diet expressed their opinions about this plan, and many people were paying attention to it.
