昔むかし、和歌山わかやまの小倉こくら村むらに、たいそう偉えらいお坊ぼうさんと小僧こぞうさんが住すんでいました

A long time ago, there were some very high-ranking monks and boys living in Ogura Village in Wakayama.

お坊ぼうさんと小僧こぞうさんは、修行しゅぎょうをしたり田たんぼを耕たがやしたりして過すごしていました

The monks and boys spent their time training and ploughing rice fields.

ちょうど田植たうえが終おわった頃ころ、田たんぼのカエルたちの大だい合唱がっしょうがはじまりました

Just as the rice planting was finished, a chorus of frogs in the rice fields began.

和尚おしょうさんたちが住すむ庵あん（いおり）は、田たんぼに囲かこまれた場所ばしょにあるので、それはもう大変たいへんな騒音そうおんでした

The Iori, where the monks live, is surrounded by rice fields, so it was a huge noise.

当初とうしょは、和尚おしょうさんも「鳴なくのもカエルの仕事しごとだから」と我慢がまんしていましたが、今年ことしは鳴なき声ごえの規模きぼが大おおきすぎました

Initially, the monk held back, saying, "It's also frog's job to call," but this year the sound was too large.

ある晩ばん、和尚おしょうさんは田たんぼにいるカエルたちに「もう少すこし静しずかにしてもらえるか？」と、相談そうだんしました

One night, the monk asked the frogs in the rice fields, "Can you please keep them a little quieter?"

するとカエルたちは「自分じぶんたちも人間にんげんのように二に本ほん足あしで歩あるけるようにしてくれたら、鳴なくのをやめても良よい」と、和尚おしょうさんに言いいました

The frogs then told the monk, "If we can walk on two legs like humans, we can stop crying."

和尚おしょうさんは少すくな々考かんがえましたが、念力ねんりきパワーを使つかってカエルたちの望のぞむ通とおりにしてあげました

The monk thought about it a little, but he used his telekinetic power to do what the frogs wanted.

二に本ほん足あしで歩あるけるようになったカエルたちは、大だい喜よろこびして「これからは鳴なかない」と約束やくそくしました

The frogs, who were able to walk on two legs, were delighted and promised that they would not squeal from now on.

ところが、二に本ほん足あしで立たち上あがったカエルの目めは、ちょうど真後まうしろをみる格好かっこうになってしまい、まともに前まえに歩あるくことができなくなりました

However, the frog's eyes, which stood up on two legs, were just looking directly behind him, and he couldn't walk forward properly.

とても不自由ふじゆうになったカエルたちは「やっぱり元もとの格好かっこうに戻もどしてほしい」と和尚おしょうさんにお願ねがいしました

The frogs, who were so uneasy, asked the monk, "I really want them to return to their original outfits."

和尚おしょうさんの念力ねんりきで、無事ぶじカエルたちは元もとに格好かっこうに戻もどりましたが、和尚おしょうさんとの約束やくそくは残のこってしまいました

The monk's telekinesis helped the frogs to return to their original appearance, but the promise they had with the monk remained.

こうして小倉おぐらのカエルは鳴なきたい時ときに、キュッとも鳴なく事ことができなくなりました

This is how Kokura's frogs can no longer squeal when they want to squeal.

このことから、和歌山わかやまの小倉こくらあたりでは、肝心かんじんな時ときに何なにも言いえない人ひとの事ことを「あいつは小倉おぐらのかわずだ」と言いうようになったそうです
