Fukushima Prefecture’s Festival to predict rice.
福島県で20日、今年の米について占うお祭りがありました
On the twentieth in Fukushima Prefecture this year’s festival to predice rice occurred.
このお祭りは、米をたくさんつくっている磐梯町で、300年以上前から続いています
This festival has been held for over three hundred years in rice producing Bandai town.
It is also referred to as the “Boat Pull Festival”.
米をのせた小さい舟に綱をつけて、集まった人たちが東と西から綱を引きます
A rope is attached to a small boat filled with rice, and people from the east and west pull the rope.
It is said that if the east side wins, there will be a lot of rice, and if the west side wins the price of rice will rise.
今年は西が勝ちました
This year the west side won.
綱を引いた女性は「服が汚くなりましたが、頑張りました
A woman pulling the rope said “My clothes got dirty but I did my best”.
“This year I want to eat delicious rice again.” she also said.
男性は「うちは米をつくっていないので、安くなったほうがいいと思います」と話していました
A man said “Since we dont grow rice at home, it would be better if it was cheaper.”
