Pope prays at Mosul, the former base of ”Islamic State”

Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church visiting Iraq visited Mosul, which was once the base of the extremist organization ”Islamic State”, and prayed to the victims of the conflict.
An ancient church stood here, but it was destroyed in 2017 when the ”Islamic State” ruled.
At a rally attended by influential locals, the Pope prayed to the victims of the conflict, while re-condemning the violence in the name of God.
Also, he said, ”Hope is stronger than hatred,” and appealed for coexistence that transcends religious differences.
Mosul has been dominated by the ”Islamic State” since 2014, and many Christians have been persecuted along with Muslims who oppose it.
Reconstruction was delayed even after the liberation, and most of the town is still in ruins.
