As for the cause of this crash, an expert who was a senior official at the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said that icing was the most likely cause.

In response to this accident, the FAA mandated modifications to the ATR72’s wing de-icing system and ordered enhanced training for pilots to deal with icing.
