There is a store in Kitakata City that makes wind chimes every year before summer comes.
The people at the store do things like painting pictures in pretty colors on the wind chimes, and using old traditional techniques to make metallic powder.
This year there are also wind chimes painted with images that are popular with overseas tourists’ such as cherry blossoms, Mount Fuji, and goldfish.
There are also pictures of dolls called ”Otari Koboshi” that get up again after falling down.
(They) hope everyone will feel better after things like the earthquake and nuclear power plant accidents.

Until around August, the store will make 30,000 windchimes.
A person from the store said: ”We made a lot of pictures that give a feeling of Japanese culture.
We hope people can enjoy the Japanese summer,” they said.
