中村の人形は福岡の街の至る所にある。
Nakamura's dolls are everywhere on the streets of Fukuoka.
過去から現在の人々の祈りを形にし、未来へ伝えることこそ自分の使命と考える。
He considers it his mission to make the prayers of people from past to present take shape, to convey them to the future.
工房を訪ねた。
We visited his workshop.
なんか、凛々しくて美しい...- あ、そうですか、ありがとうございます。- うーん。
It's just so majestic and beautiful... -Is that so? Thank you very much. -Hmm...
それぞれやっぱ個性がありますね。- そうですね。- うーん。

全部同じシリーズですけど、ま、作った時の僕の感情とか大きさとか装束とかので、やっぱり違いますよね。
They're all from the same series, but well, because of my feelings when making them, their sizes, costumes and such, they're definitely different.
中村は、危険を恐れず海外へと船で旅立った彼らの思いを、次世代に繋ぐために人形を作っている。
Nakamura made them into dolls in order to connect their thoughts of fearlessly travelling overseas on ships to the future generation.

中村が作る人形は生きている。
The dolls Nakamura makes are living.
性格や癖、更に声までもイメージさせる。
They make you visualize their personalities, mannerisms, even voices.
だから、少しこう俳句とか短歌とか、同じような感じがありますよね。
That's why they kind of have the same feel as haiku or short poems.
三十一文字で三十一文字分しか言えなかったら、もうそれは電報なんですよね。- そうです、そうです。
If I had to describe it in a 31-character poem, that's like a telegraph. -Yes, yes.
短い文章の中にたくさん入れていって、なんか今にも映像を見ているように、
There's a lot packed into a short text, it's like watching a video even now.
ま、僕の中でずっとこの人がずっと動いていってるんです。
Well, within me, this person is always, always moving.
止めずに作るから、止まったものでも生き生きとするんです。
Because I make them such that they're not motionless, even stationary things come alive.
