北海道にある無人駅で一風変わった改札が注目されています。　
An unusual ticket gate is attracting attention at an empty station in Hokkaido.
駅のホーム上にある自動改札機。
This is an automatic ticket gate on the platform.
改札機といえば通過するイメージがありますが、ここでは壁が立ちはだかり、通り抜けることはできません。

そしてなぜか、改札を挟んで向かい合うようにベンチが設置されています。

一見、不思議な改札機がある北海道小樽市のJR函館本線朝里駅は海側に駅舎があります。

一方、山側のホームには駅舎がなく、無人駅用のIC専用改札が設置されています。

JR北海道によりますと、かつては直立式の改札機を置いていましたが、5年前に老朽化で取り替えることになりました。　
According to JR Hokkaido, they used to have a vertical ticket gate, but 5 years ago they decided to replace it because they were getting old.
風や雨を防ぐ目的で既存の待合室に設置することになったため、スペースの都合上、こうした改札になったということです。　
Because it was set up in the existing concourse for the purpose of preventing wind and rain, and for the convenience of space, the current ticket gate is designed as such.
ツイッターでは「誰かが間違えて発注した説」「タッチしても前へ行かれない」などとコメントが寄せられています。
