東京・江戸川区にある染工場では、これからの夏の時期に全国各地で開催される祭りなどに合わせ、手ぬぐいの注文が殺到します。　
A dyeing factory in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward will be inundated with orders for hand towels in time for festivals held across the country this coming summer.
こちらの染工場では生地の表と裏を同じ色と柄に染め上げる「注染」という伝統技法を用いて手ぬぐい一本一本、手作業で作られています。　
At this dyeing workshop, each handkerchief is made by hand, using a traditional technique called "chusen", dyeing the front and back of the fabric the same color and pattern.
今年は特に注文が多く、一日あたりの製造本数が1200本から1600本にもなるということです。
This year, orders were especially high and the number of towels produced per day was 1,200 to 1,600.
「ほとんど休みなく働いています。うれしい悲鳴なんですけど間に合わないといけないので、ちょっと苦労しますね」
“I work almost non-stop. I'm very happy, but I have to do it on time so it's a bit difficult."
また、最近はインバウンドの影響もあって、観光地で売られている土産用の手ぬぐいの注文も増えているそうで、この先、9月ごろまでは連日、大忙しの日が続きます。
