秋篠宮さまが今日55歳の誕生日を迎え、記者会見で長女の眞子さまと小室圭さんの結婚を認めると話されました。

秋篠宮さまは「本人たちが本当にそういう気持ちであれば親として尊重するべき」と話されました。

秋篠宮さまは2年前に「多くの人が喜んでくれる状況にならなければ、婚約にあたる納采の儀を行うことはできない」と述べられました。
Prince Akishino said two years ago, "We will not have an engagement ceremony unless many people agree."
これについては「決して多くの人が納得し、喜んでくれている状況ではないと思う」として、
He also added, "I think at present there are not many people who accept and are satisfied with this."
小室さんの母親の金銭トラブルが報じられたことなどを念頭に、そうした問題への対応が「見える形になるのは必要なことではないか」と話されました。
