A donkey and its load of salt
むかしむかしのある暑い日、
Once upon a time, in a very hot day,
ロバが背中に荷物をいっぱい乗せて、ヨタヨタと歩いていました。
a donkey carried loads of salt on his back and was walking with its owner.
橋を渡っているとき、ロバはあんまり暑いので、くらくらして川に落ちてしまいました。
When crossing the bridge, the donkey was so hot that it became tired and fell into the river.
すると、どうでしょう。
And what happened then?
急に背中の荷物が軽くなったのです。
Suddenly the loads on its back became very light.
ロバの荷物は塩だったので、全部、水にとけて流れてしまったのでした。
The loads of the donkey were salt and salt all dissolved in water.
次の日、
On the next day,
ロバの飼い主はうんと軽い荷物をロバの背に積みました。
The owner of the donkey loaded a light bag on the donkey's back.
川に落ちたロバを、少しでも楽させてやろうと思ったのです。

ロバは自分の作戦が失敗した事に気づいた時はもう遅く、
It was too late when the donkey noticed that his trick had failed.
とうとうおぼれて死んでしまいました。
Finally, it drowned and died.
このロバと同じように、人間もずるい事をやる人は、
Like this donkey, people who want to play a trick
うまくいったと思っても思いがけない不幸におちいる事があります。
and think it works well may get into an unfortunate surprise.
