皆さんが日常の中で何気なく使っている言葉、
本来の意味を知らないと恥ずかしい思いをしてしまうかもしれません。
当店が本日お勧めするメニューは、 こちら、 「 枯れ木も山の賑わい」。

「 枯れ木も山の賑わい」 って言うよね。
「 枯れ木も山の賑わい」 とは本来、
「 人が集まれば賑やかになる」 という意味でしょうか？
それとも、 「 つまらないものでもないよりはまし」 という意味でしょうか？
「 枯れ木も山の賑わい」 とは本来、
「 つまらないものでもないよりはまし」 という意味です。
平成十六年度の国語に関する世論調査で、 その意味を聞いてみました。
その結果、 本来の意味で答えた人と、
本来の意味ではない「 人が集まれば賑やかになる」 を選んだ人の差は、。
三ポイントと小さいものでした。
この言葉は元々、 招待を受けた側が、
「 つまらない者でもいないよりはまし」 という謙遜の気持ちを持って使っていた言葉でした。
しかし、 その謙遜の気持ちのあることが、 相手に理解されなくなり、
単純に「 人が多い方が賑やかでいい」 という意味で、
受け取られるようになっていったようです。
そのため、 招待する側からも用いられるようになって、
相手を枯れ木、 つまり、 つまらない者になぞらえてしまっていることに気付かないまま、
「 人が多い方が賑やかでいいので来てください。 」
という意味で、 使われるようになっていったのではないでしょうか？
「 枯れ木も山の賑わい」
その本来の意味は、 「 つまらないものでもないよりはまし」 ということです。
おかしいな、 「 枯れ木も山の賑わい」 なのに、 僕の誘った人が誰も来ないよ。
あ、 来た、 いや、 違った。
